Outreach Missions NewsLiberiaSaturday, August 21, 2010In 2009 Dr. Warmington and Marian Stewart, missionaries from Jamaica, were at our church telling about their mission trip to Liberia. Drew Dyess was one of the young men who heard their testimony about their ministry to Liberian people. Drew will be going with Dr. Warmington and Marian Stewart this September to Liberia. During his two weeks there, he will assist doctors by taking patient's vital signs, recording their background information, and sharing Christ's love with them.
Drew has sent out letters of support to family and friends. If you would like to help Drew in his mission trip to Liberia you could send donations to the church or send them to him directly at Drew Dyess, P.O. Box 6, LaBelle, Florida. The total cost of this trip for him will be $3,500 to $3,800. Please be praying for Drew as he prepares for this trip to Liberia. Drew is also planning another Mission trip in October of this year to Ecuador. We will be telling you more about this trip later. New Orleans Mission TripMonday, May 03, 2010On Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 12:15pm in the social hall a very important meeting of the New Orleans Missions Team will be held. This is a critical meeting for anyone expecting to go to New Orleans, July 4 - 11, 2010. If you are not at this meeting, you probably won't be on the team this year, your attendance is required to go on this trip. If you can't be at this meeting and want to go on this trip you need to talk to Preston today. The $30 deposit for this trip is past due and need to be paid immediatley.
Each person wanting to go on this trip needs to set a goal to raise $500 to pay for the trip. Each team member needs to send out support letters to friends and family now. We will have some Wednesday night dinners in June to raise money but each individual needs to take the responsibility to raise their support. Please in prayer for this trip because it is right around the corner. We will be doing construction work and VBS at night in LaPlace, Louisiana. New Orleans Mission TripWednesday, March 31, 2010We are currently putting together a team of youth and adults to return to New Orleans (July 4 - 10, 2010) through the Celebration Church Outreach Ministries. This group will be working with the St. Bernard project in construction during the day and at Celebration Church River Parishes (LaPlace, LA) in the evening doing VBS. We have a limit of 40 people going on this trip. Individuals who are planning to go on this trip need to check with Preston and pay their $30 deposit as soon as possible.
Each person planning to go on this trip should be seeing God's will and direction. Each person going on this trip will need to help in our VBS if possible at our church June 21-25. Each person going needs to help in raising funds and sending support letters to friends to raise money for this trip. We will have organizational meetings each month and your attendence is required.
Local Missions ResourceThursday, October 15, 2009The Brotherhood have decided to begin coordinating Local Missions projects. In an effort to identify needs within our community they have setup a form on the church's homepage which will give you the opportunity to request help for someone you may know that needs help or an idea for a Local Missions project. Some examples include a widow that needs help keeping up with yard work or regular visitations to the nursing home. We need you help and suggestions to make this work. Josh Thomas will be checking the ideas submitted regularly and will then find people within the church willing to do the work. This will extend far beyond the Brotherhood and will incorporate the ladies of the W.M.U., the Youth and kids from the R.A.s, G.A.s and Mission Friends. We hope to be a church working together for the betterment of our community by following Jesus' instruction to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and assist the poor and helpless. Please pray for this ministry as the Brotherhood tries to get it off the ground. Louisiana Mission Trip - Days 3 and 4Friday, June 19, 2009by: Aaron DeereyThe last two days of construction were a continuation of the drywall work begun on Tuesday. We were able to finish up two bedrooms, the laundry room and the mud room. We also finished the ceiling in the living room which was very tricky. The hall was mostly completed and we began the ceiling in the master bedroom. Our supervisors from AmeriCorps; Louise, Liz, and Gale; took us on a tour of the levies in the Ninth Ward on Wednesday and we took them to lunch at a local seafood restaurant on Thursday. In the house we were able to get the most done when we worked in three teams with the Burchards and Michelle handling the cutting of the sheets. The house wasn't exactly "square" so there were many custom cuts but our expert cut team handled it well. We had a few visitors during the last days. My grandfather visited on Wednesday and told our construction team about losing his house and church. He also brought us cookies and pork skins which resulted in much rejoicing (yay). On Thursday we were visited by a gentleman who had just finished rebuilding, with the help of St. Bernard Project, and now works for the Project. We were debriefed by two young ladies from the Project who thanked us for our help and talked to us about how they are completely privately funded and asked us to relay the need for financial support. Our final visitors were leaders from another house and one of them had lost his house during Katrina and his family decided not to return to the parish. He is now attending LSU and came back to work in the parish for the summer. We came to a stopping point around 3:00pm on Thursday and called it a week. We said goodbye to our AmeriCorps leaders and finished a very productive week. Louisiana Mission Trip - Day 2Tuesday, June 16, 2009By: Brittany Smith and Donna Hull Today was a horrible Tuesday. Aaron got coffee without me!!!!! ='( he's mean but I'll survive. The group doing VBS had a great day. Patrick and Emily did an awesome job with their lesson on the nine plagues. The kids at VBS are so willing to interact with everyone, especially Patrick (aka Skeeter). Tomorrow we're covering the ABC's (Admit Believe Confess). Thursday night is parent night at the church where we will be performing a skit.
The VBS group, since we finish up earlier than the construction crew, had the oppourtunity to work with Green Light New Orleans project. This project replaces incandescent lightbulbs with energy-efficient ones. The oppourtunity was amazing because we had the chance to meet and offer our prayers to the families living in the homes.
The construction team was split into two groups today with one group doing drywall at one house while the other removed black mold from the frame of the house. Mr. Paul Burchard was phenomenal with his awesome house-building skills. He showed them off by cutting and hanging drywall.
Louisiana Mission Team - Day 1Monday, June 15, 2009by: Michelle MinkToday our mission team went out to work in two different areas. One group worked at the "Crocodile Dock" VBS at Celebration Church in Arabi, LA. They worked with 50+ children. Our members were crew leaders that took kids to different stations to learn about Moses and how God was with him throughout his life. Patrick, Savannah, and Emily taught Bible study, lead music, and performed a skit. After it was over Pastor Frank did a tour of some of the harder hit areas. Our other group went out into Chalmette in St. Bernard Parish. This area was under 12 feet of water for 3 weeks, and the water drained slowly over the next 4 weeks. Homes in this area were either completely wiped out or else they became uninhabitable. Many families did not return right after the storm, but now some have begun to come back and rebuild. We spent the day installing all of the insulation in the house we are working on and learning how to drywall for tomorrow. Olivia showed her superior carpentry skills when she accidentally stapled her glove to her hand after changing from one type of staple gun to another. OUCH!!!! She was a trooper and took it like woman. We had a lot of fun, and worked extremely hard today. We were blessed with safety (for the most part) and a wonderful opportunity to help those still in need. After work, we had an excellent dinner and spent the rest of our time trading stories about Gary Hull, Patrick, and Preston that were highly entertaining. Bonnie had fun running around taking pictures of various team members' armpits and posting them on Facebook (make sure you check these out!!!!). Louisiana Mission Team's First MeetingSunday, March 08, 2009
Our church will partner with Celebration Church to help provide some relief to St. Bernard Parish. Some members of our Mission Team will be tasked with doing construction/demolition work and others will help with a Vacation Bible School. Thirty-three people attended this initial meeting and expressed interest. Please pray for those who are considering serving on this team so that God will guide their decisions. Also begin praying for the team God has chosen and for the people of St. Bernard Parish. Panama Mission UpdatesWednesday, February 11, 2009If you would like to see the updates from Panama go over to Preston's Blog. He has posted two updates so far and will try to post a couple more times to keep us all up-to-date. While you're there subscribe to automatically receive future updates. |

Today (Sunday, March 8, 2009) after church the prospective members of our Louisiana Mission Team met for the first time. Pastor Frank explained that after Hurricane Katrina the people of St. Bernard Parish -- along with the rest of the Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama gulf coast -- were completely devastated. St. Bernard Parish was a community of over 750,000 people before the storm and now scarcely 200,000 people remain. The recovery effort in these areas is still ongoing.
